Polymicro Technologies Introduces
Glass Sealed Optical Fiber Ferrule
Phoenix, Arizona, March 19, 2002 -
Polymicro Technologies, LLC, the world's leading supplier of fused
silica and natural quartz components introduces a quartz ferrule with
a glass-to-glass hermetic seal to the optical fiber. The
glass-to-glass seal eliminates thermal mismatch and sealing problems
often seen with epoxy adhesives used in fiber pigtails. The ferrule
may be particularly useful with PM fiber pigtails which are sensitive
to the stress caused by thermal expansion mismatch between the fiber,
ferrule, and epoxy. The ferrules prevent migration of oxygen, water,
and other contaminants to active semiconducting components and can
also be used in applications where high optical power coupling is
required.
