Polymicro Technologies, LLC. will feature technologies at SPIE 2003, the 48th Annual Meeting of The International Society for Optical Engineering in San Diego, California.
Featuring Exciting new X-Ferrule Technology

Phoenix, AZ - June 9, 2003 - Polymicro Technologies, LLC, the world-leader manufacturer and supplier in synthetic fused silica capillary tubing will feature new X-Ferrule Technology at the 48th Annual Meeting of The International Society for Optical Engineering, SPIE, in San Diego, California, August 5 - 6, Booth 728.

The exciting new X-Ferrule technology provides low stress hermetic sealing of quartz/silica ferrules to fiber without epoxy.

X-Ferrule™ Fiber Pigtail Assembly

  • Fused quartz proprietary X-Ferrule™ design
  • Fiber directly fusion welded to ferrule
  • Used with standard/specialty SM fibers
  • Can be adapted to other fiber types/sizes
  • Soft UV-cured adhesive strain relief for added fiber protection
  • Custom cabling to meet your design requirements

Advantages

  • Epoxy-less structural bong design
  • Strong hermetic seal due to fusion weld
  • Improved material thermal property match to the fiber
  • Very low insertion loss
  • Avoids troublesome fiber metalization
  • High strength and purity of fused quartz:  resists chipping and cracking
  • High chemical resistance
  • Excellent for high temperature/pressure environments

Dimensions

  • Ferrule
  • OD:  1800 +0/-20 μm
  • ID: 127 +3/-1 μm
  • Length: Specified by customer
  • Custom dimensions available
  • Fiber length:  Specified by customer

Terminations Available

  • Additional X-Ferrule™, Bare Fiber, SMA, FC or ST on opposite end

About SPIE

SPIE—THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR OPTICAL ENGINEERING-- The Society was founded in 1955 to bring together engineers from several technical disciplines involved in high-speed, optically based test and measurement. Since then, the field of optical engineering has evolved from a multidisciplinary amalgam of physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, and materials science into an identifiable discipline in its own right. Simultaneously, SPIE has grown into a vital international organization that addresses virtually all subfields associated with optics and photonics technologies and their many engineering, scientific, and commercial applications.
